24 hour forecast: Ardnamurchan Point to Cape Wrath - Sunday Feb 03 12.00

Wind
Westerly or southwesterly 6 to gale 8, increasing severe gale 9 or storm 10, perhaps violent storm 11 in north later.

Sea State
Very rough or high, becoming very high or phenomenal.

Never seen / heard "phenomenal" used before - is it a new category?

It must be winter, at last!

I remember once (safely ashore) listening to the 01:00 BBC R4 LW Sea Area Forecast.
"Sea Area SE Iceland. Hurricane F12 Imminent."

A chilling thing to hear, even with duvet pulled up to chin.

Good luck to any ships, big or small, in Sea Area Bailey tonight.

Actually, thats bought back a few memories about submarining in Northern Waters in the winter. Trying to catch a trim at periscope depth whilst receiving Loud Advice from the Command. Helpful, that......

Well, the 'urricane didn't hit (yet!) but it was pretty windy. Gruinard Bay is well sheltered from the West so the sea is quite calm (relatively speaking) but I wouldn't wish to be out in The Minch or south of Iceland! Even Carol Kirkwood on BBC mentioned that there would be a BIG swell. Now THAT is something you don't hear on that forecast!
We have sleaty-snow showers and it's rather chilly in the wind. A day for the fire to be kept well stoked, and only a very short walk with the dog!
Hope all you boats and rooves are safe 'n' sound.

Looks like spring is on its way. Usually happens about this time of year.

When I lived on Orkney the houses had wire runnning over the top of them to keep them attached to the planet.

Simon-and I was heading up there to do a bit of work at Kishorn!-I seemed to have completely missed the forcast as the snow blasts horizontally across the Pigs Nose in front of my window!

It's just started to snow here, but it's not nearly as windy as last Tuesday. I'm going to the yard on Wednesday morning, and I'll have a look at your boat also and report back.
