very puzzling non Boaty ,but annoying

I heard this one years ago,knew the explanation,its reared its head again and my old brain cant cope,swmbo is highly intrelligent but baffled Helpppppppp
3 men go to a hotel and ask the clerk "how much for a room?" the clerk replies £30 and they each give him £10. They go to the room,but the clerk knows that the room should only be £25 and feels guilty and gives the bell boy £5 to return to them.

The bell boy knows that £5 doesnt divide equally between 3 men so he gives each man £1 each back and keeps £2 for himself.

That means the 3 men paid £9 each (£27) and the bell boy kept £2 . £29 in total, What the hell happened to the other pound ?????????

Forget the £30 it's a red herring.

They have now paid £27 for a £25 pound room, and the bell boy has run off with the £2 difference.

Total £ 30

Think your doing wrong sum 27 + 2 = 29

Should be 27 - 2 = 25

Clearly you must be an accountant by profession. I once had one who subtracted a small number from a large number and got a negative answer.
