I went there with a shopping list.

I needed to research the best cure for arthritis, a new jacussi, and some patio furniture; I wanted to peer into the latest sports 4WD and I needed to buy something that will lop the branches off my trees, some glue that will stick anything to anything, and a drill that will drill through anything.

I didn’t do very well, found some right at the back of Hall 2, and I had to really look hard, because they had filled the place with boats – 700 of the wretched things, and the place was full of engines, electronics, sailmakers, charter companies and general chandlery plus lots of other uninteresting boaty stuff. Hardly worth going, especially as there were so many people there.

We can really show the French how to run a boat show.

Did you find any good wine?
Yes, Camelia, I did.

And I drank it!

I also went to the Federation Francaise de Voile awards ceremony. They honoured all the acheivements of their sailing participants during 2012 (including coming third to our Ben Ainslie). These men and women are household names, easily recognised, and enthusiastically received in a three-hour clap-a-thon. Oh, there was some wine there too!! I think it was my mother's as it was called Mumm.

I am doing a quick dash though the tunnel tomorrow morning and going to the show, returning Sunday. I hope to have the same disappointment as the OP! :D

If we had the same passion for sailing in this country from a very early age then we could do the same but we don't...

Its a cracking show, but they also do a very good line in swimming pools and jacuzzi there as well..
