My cockpit compartments are permanently damp for lack of ventilation. What's available that can be left open most of the time but not let rain in, and could be fitted on the sides. I don't want to put them on the top as the space on my 22ft boat is limited, they'd get trodden on, tripped over, sat on, etc..

G'day Tony,

Do the locker hatches have a gutter that has no drain point ? I had this problem and solved it filling the gutter with water to find the lowest point then cut some one inch electrical plastic conduit in half and glassed it to the underside or the gutter and down to the bottom of the locker, then drilled a small hole that let the water drain into the cockpit, with another small hole at the lockers lowest point. solved the problem.

If you only need ventilation, your local caravan shop has small stainless steel slotted vents, that allow air flow but not rain. They look a bit like a louvre blind.

Hope this helps. . . . .

tannoy vents work ok but a lot more expensive than the louvred type. mushroom vents have the advantage that you can screw them shut if there's a lot of water flying about but stainless, not the plastic ones as they break too easily.
