Is Alessandro di Benedetto of 'Team Plastique' towing warps and a drogue of sorts, at 57 degrees south latitude, as he heads for Cape Horn in the Vendee Globe race?

he need to get his arse into gear, he is as far away from the leader as the leader is from finishing.
still more than i could or want to do :o

Bear in mind he is sailing the only boat in the race with a fixed keel. His reports are worth reading for his obvious pleasure in just being able to talk part.

Maybe there should be a rule - anyone who wishes to comment negatively about someone who has sailed like any of these guys should do so only after a day, offshore, on UK waters (single handed but under sail) prior to posting.

They take the picture because, as Snooks demonstrates, a picture is worth a thousand words, though a few words might make it easier to understand, but that's editing for you.

Going to drive down the number of posts, and therefore entertainment value, round here if you do bring in that rule.... :D

I still don't know why he's taking pictures of the issue rather than fixing it, though - can't see Alex doing that?????

All the Vendee boats have fixed cameras that are positioned to enable the race organisers to obtain footage of incidents such as this, it helps to build interest in the coverage. I suspect many of the competitors would be reluctant to transmit such an event not wishing to encourage others, clearly not an issue on a 15 year old boat in last place. As for the sail it was recovered by slowly winching it up from the bow in sections until the head could be recovered into the cockpit and the sail dragged below and repaired, all covered on the internet. If some members of this forum could be bothered to inform themselves before sounding off the level of discussion could possibly become more worthwhile.

Many has been the time we have had embarrassing errors (like a mast falling down) creep into our days at sea, we usually set to and sort them out. Later we realise having taken a few moments, which would have had no deleterious impact on the problem (fallen masts possibly excepted), to take a picture would have secured a place in history for our actions and might have provided some amusement for others (especially for armchair critics). Its never so interesting when written, maybe unless you are a pensmith of Dylan's calibre!

Snooks probably does this all the time (take pictures of embarrassing moments of others), we just regret missed opportunity.
