Is just me or is it bloody difficult to navigate round the official web site to find out the latest news!!!

Unless of course you subscribe.

The "race viewer" is pretty good. But am I correct in thinking you have to subscribe and pay £19.99 to see the news section?

I don't think so /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

zzzzz.. I find it difficult to muster interest any more, sqillions of quids on high tech so far removed from what I sail. When I was a kid I was in awe of Robin knox, F. Chich and later on Claire but they sailed boats I could relate to, now they're so different. Maybe next time someone will try doing a race backwards or upside down just to break another record or summat. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Quite agree zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The only two races I get mildly excited about are the AZAB & the OSTAR. Just because I can see me/us doing them at some point in the future.

The Velux, VOR et al are as far removed from my sailing as F1 is from my weelky drive to the boat.

Well I have persevered with it and have eventually decided that it’s not worth another visit.

Normally I am welded to a site like this through the winter months but I just can’t get any interest out of it. The view race function is useless, my machine at work struggles with it and my laptop at home find it too much of a struggle. They write these programs with the latest kit oblivious to the kit that most punters are using.

If I was sponsor I would be bloody furious – it’s just not going to do the deal for them.

I cannot see any logic in charging for access -I certainly will not pay and it just puts me off velux for trying to charge for their own publicity!! Just stupid.

I agree, the reward (eg. crappy fotos with a logo watermark on the interesting bit) is not worth the effort involved in using the site

Has everyone given them feedback on their site. If enough do this then they might realise what a useless site they've got and do something about it.

Agreed re charging for access. Many successful web based business models offer free access for services and charge for advertising.

In this case, there may be no advertising, but sponsoring a yacht race is all about publicity.

What a difference between Velux and the Route De Rhum site - its free and you can get emailed updates if required. Lots of great info and some good videos so far. I emailed them to congratulate them on a good site - should've known they would reply in French! I think they were grateful for the feedback but cant be sure!

Well, there's the one who won it last time, the grumpy one, the one with the nice hair, the old one (who isn't really that old), the one who's having a go but doesn't expect much, the one who's still having his boat nailed together and the one with a slightly more famous brother. And they're under the banner of a company which puts windows in your loft extension. And that'll be £19.99 to you, squire, what do you mean; the pole to reach up and wiggle the catch isn't included, that's extra.
