Velox Prop & Gear antifouling

Vyv Cox has been using it for a number of years and has reported here (mostly on the sailyboat fora) on his experience (good)

used it last year on trim tabs and p-brackets (iirc) boat still inside, cannot say I'm v.impressed, will have pics to prove in a few weeks.
V. unimpressed with TK Separ (or whatever) this clear laquer spray I used on props and shafts though. Almost as bad as polishing them (I did the year before)
Hence looking for silicon based products (which are much more expensive!)

Trev. waters down here are much warmer, maybe it works fine up there

cheers

I use it in the med for years, before it wears away I found it pretty good. Also in the following year it is fairly easy to remove, or recoat. Resists jet washing too, if you have a mid season lift and clean.

Tried propspeed, which arguably works better but you can't jet washing it mid season and you still get some growth.

So for me Velox seems the best compromise.

more or less every year we tried something else on the props,
one year (before departure away from SOF) we had Velox, and that was the best we had so far.
(one year later still some remains left on the props)

the yard here in Montenegro didn't have Velox, and I didn't want to bother him with orderring it special for me.
they put sort of a sticky grease, which holds for a couple of day's, ...weeks....?

I have dive gear onboard, and ones or twice per season I clean the props under water.

We're working on making our water warmer !

I just want something that will keep the bloody barnacles off !

£60 is better than £200 extra on fuel for a 50 mile trip and a slow boat.

Collecting from Marine Superstore in Port Solent first thing tomorrow morning, it will be on (primer plus top coat) by Sunday.

Trev, be very careful and follow the instructions!

good luck

So far I have followed the instructions to the letter - after cleaning the old crud off I rough abraded with 80 grit wet and dry used dry, then washed / wiped down three times using neat Acetone.

This is the rather nice looking primary coat. I got a 500ml can, but a 250ml can would have easily primed both sides. The paint flows on quite nicely and surface dries within 10 minutes.

Good idea to put carpet down to stop paint getting on the gravel Trev :)

Seriously, hope it works well for you mate.
