Hi and Hope everyone is good.
In my preparation of servicing my kad 300 engine i.e oils and filters etc I have looked up on the web 15w40 oils which meet the volvo specification in my case vds-2 according to the volvo manual.

whilst searching I have come across vds 3 and vds 4.

so my question is - Is vds 3 or vds 4 ok to use in my kad300 engine.

I am thinking of getting shell remula oil
can anyone give any feedback.

VDS-3 is what is readily available at Volvo dealers at the moment, and was recommended for my D4.
VDS-4 is the future: it can be ordered in, but the benefits will be questionable for an older engine.

Lots of owners use Shell instead of the Volvo oil.

Thanks for the replies so far.
So vds 3 will be OK in a vds 2 recommended engine?
I understand that engine oils get more and more improved - just want to be safe than sorry.

When I serviced my Volvo engines myself, I always bought Volvo oil from my local Volvo Truck Service Centre. If you have one near you, give them a call and see how much the Volvo VDS3 oil is. You can also get the green coolant from there too.

Was going to say that isn't a bad price. Then realised it was without VAT added!

I could have saved about £20 by buying an unknown brand but decided in the scheme of things it was worth the extra for Shell oil which has received praise on this forum. I had already saved more than that on filters.
