VDO water meter sender

I have a VDO water level sender on one of my two water tanks that gives no reading at the gauge (the gauge doesn’t move at all) , but the gauge is ok (tested on the other tanks connections) I have 12.9v on the terminals at the sender. I have removed the sender - is there a way to test it or perhaps service it. It has no moving parts. A replacement is silly money ! Has anyone had similar issues or a solution? Thanks.

Isn’t there a movingbit below?

Senders change resistance so get a multimeter on it and measure while changing the level (maybe fill the tank then pull the sender up and down).
0-180ohm usually

The VDO sender unit you currrently have is a 4-40ma sender.

• Sender Unit Output: A healthy, standard 4-20 mA "sender unit" (transmitter or sensor) should output exactly 4.0 mA when the measured parameter (e.g., pressure, level) is at its minimum, not 0.40 mA.
• You need to change to a new level type sender and new guage from China. Look on line Aliexpress 0–190 Ohm Wasserschwimmer-Sensor + Wasserstandsanzeige, rote LED, 52 mm Wassertank, Messgerät, Anzeige für Marine, Auto, Wohnmobil, Wohnmobil, Yacht, 9–32 V - AliExpress 34
• You will find the fixing holes are exactly the same as the VDO sender unit.
• Check the depth of the tank to suit the senders available.
• When I changed mine over I only had to run an extra negative line to the guage other wise the existing wireing on your boat will work.
