VDO tacho/hourmeters callibration for KAD42

Hi to everyone
I have just bought 2 new VDOs (model N02 012 165) tachos with hourmeter to fit with my KADs 42 and it is impossible to find the pulse number that comes from W wire of alternator.
I saw that there was a relavant question in April 2010 with some useful hints (as the ratio, nr of teeth etc) but there was not the answer for the famous pulse number.
Can anyone help?

I recently changed one on a pals boat, secondhand though. We where told to use code 8 and this worked straight away matching up the revs with the other rev counter. This code apparently is on a large number of engines including kad 42 and 43

Thanks for your info, but code 8 is for vdo-volvopenta instrument. This is what was installed in my fairline but I have changed them to universal vdo's which need a pulse number with range from 0,50 to 399,99
