Anyone know if NASA transducer for depth and a paddle wheel log will fit on old early 90's Black Square LCD VDO instruments?

Be grateful for quick answer as they are on ebay, and Semi Circle needs some cheap instruments.

A Google search did not seem to be much help this time around!

Thanks

Jim

Wouldn't be certain .... but following logic (!) says ...

Depth transducer is most likely to work as older stuff and Nasa works on same freq.

Log ... seeing as it's based on pulses generated by a small magnet in one "blade" of the paddle ... surely that has to be similar ? About all I could think that could affect it is the strength of the pulse generated ... but the pulse count should be same ??

I reckon they would work ....... if not put em back on Ebay !!

Thanks Nige, I follow your logic on the depth - but,

the paddle wheel magnet could be on a different radius, and thus a different time period. Similarly, it could have a different spin rate, also producing some errors. I am prepared to trial the depth, but need to know the log solution as well.

Unless anyone has a cheap log & depth out there?

Mmmm radius .... never considered that ...

It's daft ... but crawling around under boats surveying etc. - never struck me as paddles being different size ! Come to think of it .... my Race Boat with a paddle log ... that was a Soviet system ... that was smaller paddle than ones seen in UK !!

But thinking about all the ones I've seen in UK .... never saw that small ... and all seemed similar ...

Would it not be posible to calibrate ? Do the measured mile both ways ?? Then if there is any error due to size ? As I know YOU know - log speed is inaccurate anyway ....

I think I would trawl around a few yards while the Ebay clock ticks .... check out a few paddles ....

Have a look at the airmar site. Loat time I looked it had tables showing which transducers for which instruments.

The Transducers for my simrad are the same as for raymarine so you may find equilivants.

Airmar don\'t list NASA...

I think you'll find that Airmar don't list NASA in their tables. As far as I'm aware, the NASA depth transducer works at 150kHz - this might help to decide whether it'll work with older VDO kit.
