The VAT is on the value ascertained by the Customs Officer - could be a valuation, could be an amortisation of the new cost of a similar item etc.

And beware, it's the value of the consignment, not the goods. That include anything you pay to get it delivered to the UK.

Don't forget that you still have to comply with the RCD which may preclude boats built pre 2017
