VAT on Navigation Equipment?

A bloke in the toilets at the marina (!!) told me that as my new boat is over 39ft I won't have to pay VAT on any navigation or safety equipment.

I've never heard of that, is he right?

but I've heard of what goes on in the toilets though,

maybe it was a boaty sort of chat up line??

That sounds like a right load of toilets unless you're running your boat as a VAT registered commercial enterprise

Load of tosh. Except that 39 feet is big enough to sail to Jersey and buy your nav stuff there....

Never mind, wishful thinking I suppose.

I'll just have to cut some of the toys out of my equipment budget for the new boat (or hope someone buys the old one quickly!!)
