We bought a second hand boat on the Canary Islands last year and plan to sail her back to the Netherlands in 2007.
The Canary Island are within the EU but without the VAT zone. There has never been VAT paid for the boat.
I can sail back with a first stop at Madeira or Morocco and than south Spain. Both have low VAT rates, Madeira 15% and Spain 16%, little difference. The amount of VAT to pay will mostly depend on the 'value' of the boat.
The Spanish authorities use valuation tables, anybody know more about the tables, how many % of new would you pay for a 5 year old boat?
I can't find any information about Madeira, anybody know more about the Customs over there and the way they calculate the value of a second hand boat?
I would appreciate any help including email adresses from customs in Spain or Madeira.
