VAT Invoice on 2nd hand boat

Sorry, should have explained a little better in my thread. We bought the boat in Gosport and VAT has already been paid on it. We are british although brought up in S Africa. The only thing we dont have proof of is that VAT was already paid.

The boat may have been bought in Gosport but do you know where the VAT payment was made?
My boat came from the USA and after clearing into the UK at Falmouth in 1996 was sold to a UK resident in Le Havre.
A survey was commissioned in Le Havre for the purpose of establishing a value for VAT which was paid to at the local Duane.
When I bought the boat I got as copy of the VAT reciept from the Le Havre office.
If you can find out where VAT payment was made you might have similar luck. It looks like you may have to go back along the trail of previous owners.
As the entry documentation proved the boat was in the EU in 1996 I already had proof of RCD exemption.
