Help! Can anyone advise on the blackened appearance of my interior teak veneer bulkhead. Is it some sort of damp mould and can it be restored?

if it's teak veneer - maybe, but i am not optimistic at all. Oxalic acid will bleach it but the source of the damp will still be there and the veneer would likely be lifting.

Heavuily blackened teak tends to bleach back to unattractive greyish on the surface and a lot of sanding might be needed - too much for veneer perhaps. Nothing to lose by haveing a go but first fix the source of damp i supose.

Welcome to the forums / madhouse!

As tcm says, fix the source of the damp first. I wonder, also, if there is some rust involved somewhere - iron rusting in contact with wood often leaves a black stain. If this is the case you may wish to consider if there's something needing replaced.

I think you will find this is a combination of tannin and fungus. If you can dry out the area, rub it down and then revarnish it will be fine. However, if it gets wet again...... You need to fix the source of water first.

Anytime I see veneer - I swop it if possible. I had ceiling lists in 4 cabins and 2 heads with that (not allowed to use bad words) and it fell off like leafes.
