Varnish gone wrong...

Even if its Coat over dry, I always do a light sand just to so you can see where you have been. To fix the brush marks now you'll just have to sand back to a smooth surface. Add some thinners and don't go over bits you have already been over afterwards. Work it in locally then move on to the next bit, but if you have a 'holiday' (but where there's varnish not thick enough) don't go back because it will turn into a mess - just fix it once you add more coats. For bare wood you should aim for 7-10 coats maybe.

Okay, successfully removed all bad varnish on starboard side with duck tape after wiping with alcohol to remove oily film - 25 metres used so far. Tomorrow, port and front etc...

I'll then sand what's left, and re-coat, job done... though I might have to wait a while: forecast is for rain (lots of it) and gales for the next four days... oh well.

Tim.

By sanding between coats I have always used wet and dry, wet, or a wet scotch cloth. Dry scotch cloth is great for preparing good old varnish.
