It is well known that silicone polishes are a menace when repainting, I believe they cause 'fisheye' effects where the paint is repelled around a tiny feature that has trapped some silicone.
I'm re-varnishing a table using 1 pot polyurethane varnish, and this effect is rampant.
The first very thin coat (50% white spirit) looked normal.
The second coat showed the fisheye effect.
I sanded it, washed it over with white spirit and then with IPA (iso propyl alcohol, not beer!), then put a third coat on, thinned about 10% white spirit.
Same effect.
The wood is oak veneer with a quite open grain.
Any suggestions welcome!
Thanks in advance.
