Ok, as mentioned elsewhere here, I managed to kick over a mix of Raw turps and some Varnol varnishing oil onto a dry teak deck. Unhappily, it was a very thin mix used as a wash, so mainly raw turps, but it still makes a very big nasty stain and is still sticky. Any suggestions as to how to remove it?

I have OT8 diesel cleaner, turps or oxalic acid. I doubt the turps will help. Can I steam it out, or should I wait for it to dry and let nature and UV take its course?

Suggestions please.

I think if I were you, I'd scraped up and blot as much of the sticky stuff as possible immediately (without spreading it further) as immediate first aid, while waiting for expert advice.

Well, I've tried OT8, and its done a bit of good, but not much. My feeling is that adding turps will only dilute it further into the wood. I think that maybe gently scrubbing more turps into it, and then using OT8 ( bio oil digester) in cycles will be the best thing to do, then just soak up and wash off. repeat till fed up or it works. I don't want varnish on the surface, but driven down into the wood is fine. I also have a steam gun, which may help as well, by liquidising the varnish and allowing it to be soaked up.

I used Varnol on Mahogany bulwarks, about eight coats, and within a couple of weeks it had all but disappeared. Teak will probably absorb even less than the mahogany did so I would just leave it and let it vanish under it's own steam.

Of course sods law will probably apply - I wanted mine to stay on and you don't!

I will give it a scrub, as with the rest of the deck, along with a little light recaulking, and see what it looks like. Thin Varnol will disintegrate after a few weeks in the sun, though soaked in, I find it to be a lot tougher, and good for hard wear areas.

damn unfortunate accident, but something that i found really helps is actual teak shavings/sawdust. It absorbs foreign properties (the sticky stuff), and will also seems to replace, and even buff up effected area.
Did the same on a teak deck on a wanderer class, that said it had got 1 coat on it.
If all else fails, then defo sanding is required.
