VANG KEY

I have done a google search on Selden, SeaSure, and Barton for the type of key you are looking for without any success so it may be that you'll need to go to your Mast's maker to get the proper one, though I'm surprised those above didn't stock them.

Alternatively you could perhaps modify a large Clevis pin of the size used for your rigging.
Either heat and bend and then drill a larger hole with a cobalt drill bit in the shank of the pin to suit the shackle pin.

This type of key used to be quite common on Wayfarer dinghies masts until they changed to an underboom slider in a slot. I've looked through my old dinghy bits but no luck there either.

A hunt around a boat jumble may be a source. Or the 'Wanted' ads of this forum maybe.

Have you tried the source of your illustration?

Savage seadog. The boom usually has a stainless fitting attached to the underside and a recess in the shape of a keyhole, the Head of the vang key fits into the slot and slides about an inch aft to lock the kicking strap gear. More found on dinghies than yachts these days.

Well the head fits in the slot but actually then slides forward!

The OP has a fairly small yacht I think you will find so would expect to find dinghy fittings on it

I officially love this thread!

I lost mine ages ago, and couldn't find what the part was called. The Corribee has the same set up.

i just need to find one now. D'oh!

Order one from the chandlers this morning, as I knew they had RWO stuff.

As he was taking the order he said, "hold on a minute, I might...."

Then wondered over to a box of forgotten parts in the corner, and out comes just the thing I wanted. £2.99! How Chandlers remember that they have such small and forgotten items in stock is beyond me.
