My Vancouver 27 is in Mallorca for the time being an I'm in UK. I'd like to buy a new prop for her and take it out with me, the old prop has quite severe chips on the blade tips. The prop is a 3 blader, the engine is a Bukh 24. She will only be used for cruising.

To buy a new prop I need to supply details of the size, pitch and shaft taper, would anyone know offhand what those dimensions are or where I could find them. Maybe another V28 owner with the details recorded somewhere?

Cheers, Brian.

If not a member, you might try joining the vancouver owners association

I was looking at the website a couple of hours ago but it the publicly available pages appears fairly dated and unused. There's a welcoming address from Chairman for the 2011 season, notice of the annual club dinner for 2010 etc, all the publicly visible signs are the association is a redundant resource unfortunately.

I was hoping to find a V27 owner with his boat ashore, who could check the prop markings on his next visit, or who may have the info stayed away in his boatfile!

Thanks for the pointer though.

Cheers, Brian.

You really need to check your individual boat as they may not all be the same. The size will almost certainly be stamped on the boss, but you can do the calculations using the Propcalc programme on www.castlemarine.co.uk The shaft will be either 1" or 25mm, probably the former - Northshore should be able to tell you, but you have to be certain as the tapers are different. You may also find it helpful to talk to Sillette as they will work out the size for you and their props are competitive. BTW bits chipping off the blades could be a sign of dezincification so it may well be worth looking at your anode situation before you put an expensive new prop on.

Hi Brian
I have sent you a PM

Try giving Northshore a ring if you know the hull number they still have all the old Pheon build records and will be able to tell you what was fitted to your boat. Pheon had an unfortunate habit of not being standard and there is some variation in prop sizes. I could put you in touch with a number of V27 owners but the web site is visited and a number of 27 owners refurbishing use it.

Hi Brian

My V27 had a 16 x 10 prop on a 1" shaft with DV20. I'm installing new engine at the moment and have a Kiwiprop as a replacement.

Regards

John

PS: Old prop may be available if interested!

Ditto!

I removed the old 3-blade fixed prop on my 1982 Pheon-built V27 last year when I sold the original knackered DV20.

FWIW, I replaced the entire installation, including the propshaft etc, when I fitted a Beta engine with a Darglow Featherstream. If you're looking for a quick fix, then you're welcome to my old prop, which is currently doing service as an object d'art at home.

But you might just give Darglow a call about the correct spec, price and timescale (they make them to custom sizes) for your V27 - it has worked wonders for both speed under sail and for motoring in astern - less haphazard tracking - and better thrust in forward.

Jon

PS My old prop is for a 25mm shaft from memory, but PM me if you're interested and I'll check the exact bore, taper and key positions with a caliper.

Here you go: http://vancouver.informe.com/propellor-choice-dt178.html

Not the information you want but join the site make a post PM some of the V27 owners you never know one that has fitted a different prop may have the old 3 blade for sale.
Thanks Pete, as much as anything else, your link proved the website is active after all. The initial feeling I had was it had become redundant, I wonder how many other Vancouver owners will have reached The same conclusion and gone away disappointed? Now I know it's active, I'll join up myself.

Cheers, Brian

Thanks for this info, very helpful, you confirm what my gut feeling was regards size, 16 x 10 on a 1" shaft would sound about right from what I remember.

Cheers, Brian.
