Does anyone on this Forum know of a Van De Stat Selecta 30. As far as I can find out they were built by a Dutch yard in the early 70s. Any further info would be appreciated.

30'3" x 22'11" x 9'6" x 4'11" fin Displacement 8,289 lbs. 4/6 berth Renault 35hp dsl. Dutch built cruiser/racer imported from early 70's. Hansome lines and useful accomodation with alternative layouts giving a dinnette or L-shaped settee in saloon. Has not been reviewed in UK sailing magazines. Not very common in the UK.
I would have thought there was a Van de Stadt web site somewhere which would have more information, perhaps Dutch based.

VdS have a good web site with a good branch in Australia.
focus is on modern boats tho.
There is a steel VdS 30' on the hard in our harbour, made of steel, long keel, traditional lines accommodation looke a bit cramped but it looks a good sea boat, you can't have every thing! Hull is 4 mm plate with angle bar frames. Wooden superstructure. It's a bit delapidated & is undergoing repair.

Don't know this particular one, but Ricus van der Stadt designed a good many fast sailing/cruising yachts, which were often well ahead of their time. By the way Etap is also a van der Stadt design, though not one I particularly fancy. A van der Stadt retrospect appeared a while back in the Waterkampioen, glad to let you have it if you're interested; it's in Dutch, though.

The Van der Stadt 30 would be much the same as the 28, I you are thinking of purchasing her, take a good at the keel fixings and internal support for the keel, This is about the only thing I have ever found any problem with.

Apart from that they are an excellent sea boat, responsive and forgiving, they point very well indeed, the swept back (Cast iron) keel works very well.

I had gut one to replace the keel support timbers, not built to the original plan, had some fun working that lot out, all in Dutch.

We removed the dinette and relocated the galley to the st'd side.

Hi ! oldsalt.
I am completing a Van de Stat 29ft - (Trintella or Tufglas, originally "harmony" design) from a hull and deck moulding.
Keel is steel = moulded into fibreglass with not much support from the plywood floors - should I be worried about your comment ?
Also - different boats have different positions for base of mast - I have 2 scale drawings, but no measurements and it is not easy to take them off..
I did try The web site and service team, but they no longer support the older boats.

This is a model I have not seen before, an interesting set up though. With reference to the keel, this would be a totally different arrangement to the cast iron swept back keel, it's problem being that the front end of the keel wanted to go up thru the hull, and the back of the keel wanted to pull the bottom out, so support was needed for compression and tension within a distance of 1.2 metres.

You don't say if your keel is swept back, if it is, have good look at the support timbers and how well they are fixed to the keel and ply hull. any evidence of excessive keel movement is the first sign.

Re the position of the mast, this will governed by the type of rig selected, Fractional or mast head, you should have no problem if you use a scale rule on the drawings you have, if this proves too difficult, you can always check with another owner and take some measurements.
