Always liked the look of Van de Stadt yachts.

Just found this 1997 47' Samoa steel version in Langkawi, Malaysia on Yachtworld - seems really good value to me (but what do I know :p )

Aus$ 179k = £122k

Could be a good buy for someone prepared to travel & start an adventure from the far east.

Home built (but seems very nicely done) but not usable in the EU without complying with RCD and paying duty and VAT so market limited to people who want to use it for ocean voyaging - for which it would be suitable. However, limited market hence lowish (but not really low) price.

I can't understand why the owner doesn't get it back to Oz or even New Zealand to sell. Steel boats are popular over there with serious cruisers - certainly in NZ - and command reasonable prices (so my chum in Whangarei says).

Re RCD etc - If I bought it out there (hypothetically) I certainly wouldn't be looking to bring it back to the EU - loads of places to cruise/explore elsewhere.

Don't know the owner's motives for selling. It is likely to be attractive to an Australian or a Kiwi looking to cruise that area without the hassle of sailing there. However, that in itself limits the market. You will find similarly attractively priced boats in other parts of the world where owners are selling without taking the boat back to their home country. Almost always at lower prices than in Europe.
