I posted this on PBO Reader to reader but thought there may be some classic boat enthusiasts who've come across this engine. There is a 12 hp version about too. Would be glad to hear from anyone who has come across this 2-stroke engine and what they think of it and how they keep it maintained. Or indeed views on the relative merits of 2-stroke inboard marines, compared to diesel - one chap thought 2-strokes could only serve as mooring anchors.

Two strokes has mooring anchors what they thought.

Of course they're much too small and light.
The Valmet was in its time that the replacement for the Stewart unfortunately economics overtook it and small light Japanese diesels became cheap enough to be the engine of choice. But when you consider cost of a diesel Plus its fuel there really isn't a economic choice.
Even when you consider the weight aspect with anything over 12 hours of fuel and and the diesel is now a lighter power unit.
Need I mention Reliability or flammable liquids ?
