valiant water heater

hi .the boat i just brought has a valiant water heater in the heads the surveyor did warn me it was knackered
my question is if i replace it with another water heater ,i will have to adjust all pipes to fit new heater ie shorten lenghten
add bends etc ,pain in backside .is there anybody who can recondition old unit .make it like new so drops onto old fittings
carnt seem to find out much about valiant on net .have they bit the dust .thanks in advance for all help
 
I have fitted my second replacement water heater, and had to do some minor pipe changes for each. not really a significant problem.
 
Had alot of experience with Vaillant equipment, probably the best of its type - not able to comment on how easy/advisable to recon from the marine environment but the training machine we had (VCW Sine 18 combi) was dismantled and reassembled every day for 10 years stood up well with very few new parts required, UK stuff simply disintergrated in a simlar environment.

I has one on my hillyard it was faultless!! Mine was in the galley and rusty from spray from the "chimney" it provided endless hot water and was the best thing i ever had on any boat!It must have been 2o years old at the end and never needed any adjustment.

Dont let anyone tell you gas is not good for heating water its perfect!Just dont leave it on all the time and close the gas at the bottle mine was very economic with the gas given the comfort of long showers when not to far from a tap!!
 
I also have a Valliant heater, it is a piece of history but in great working order, Valliant tell me it was the first model they made!! They put me in touch with a company who stock diaphrams, (will try to find them for you)apparently about the only thing that goes wrong with them, gives us all the hot water for showers and domestic we need, wouldn't be without it, try and do what it takes within reason and safety to keep it.

seeing if possible to repair .and judging by all the praise people put upon valiant ill persevere with repair first ,and replacement second (valiant)

I replaced my Vaillant with a Rinnai water heater two years ago.
The Rinnai is far better, heats water far quicker and to a higher temp.
Cost about £200 including the draught diverter.

I also replaced my old valiant as it would only give luke warm water. I thought it wouldnt really be worth repairing it, so i binned it and bought a Rinnai too.

I intalled the water lines using flexible pipes and run a new 3/8 OD gas pipe to it to suit the slightly changed location.

Its performed faultlessly so far, and the water it produces is very hot!
 
I have a new valiant, with electronic ignition, sometimes fails to fire up correctly, will get it looked at, but its fine apart from that and gives lots of hot water, its a 11litre a miinute type, so quite big.
