Can those of you who know the Spanish Costas well please give some indication as to which marinas are cheaper/and /or best in both Valencia and Barcelona as we are heading east over the next month, currently moored in Torrevieja. I was hoping to spend some time in both marinas exploring the areas if the costs are not too prohibitive.

Port vell in Barcelona is not cheap, but nowhere is around Barca, mind you, port forum, just above port olypic is cheaper, as is Badalona, what the actual prices are, I dont know as I pay monthly.

When we were unable to get into Barcelona a few years ago (too full) we stayed at Port Ginesta which is about 20kms south IIRC.

We took the train to Barcelona each day. Very good service, though about 20 minutes walk to the station. Don't know current rates, which you can probably get from them, but was reasonable at the time. Although the marina was rather a 'dead' boat park it was well run and felt safe.

This might help:

La Vila Joiosa in late May 2009 on our 45 footer was €14 a night. Our next stop; Torry (where you are) was €45 a night.

There is a new marina in Denia harbour (El Portet) - on the right once you are in Denia main harbour; could be worth a call for their overnight rates; which will be cheaper than Marina de Denia or Club Nautico

It can be difficult to find a space in Port Vell Barcelona and, as Englander says, it isn't cheap. But it is worth trying as you are right in the city itself and you might even save in the long run as you won't need taxis or public transport. It's generally best to fax marinas to make a booking, I find.

Got to agree with you and Colin the Port Vell is a magic place. Would still be there if the boss lady had not decided she did not like the white flappy bits any more!!!

We had big problems finding a space in Barcelona. Port Vell was pretty much full and the others we tried didn't bother to reply. In the end we wound up in Badalona, which is a bit up the coast.
The place was pretty much brand new and there was plenty of space and the marina folk are very helpful and friendly. Security is good as well ( the central Barcelona marinas can have problems in this area) . Not the greatest location, a bit industrial but a short walk finds Badalona itself which is a nice little town. There is a regular bus service ( air conditioned) running every 20 minutes and you have the choice to go to San Adria ( 5 minutes by bus) and get the regional train or take a tram into Barcelona or ... walk ( approx 15 minutes) to the Metro. In each case you are about 25 minutes from the city.
There were restaurants and a chandlery there plus the usual slipway, boatyard and hoists. Construction work had started on what was supposed to be a hotel, but I don't know if it is finished. Spanish building development has hit the bump stops.
I would say well worth a try. San Adria has a huge supermarket.
PM me if you need more info.
