Hi all

I’ve just purchased a 2015 V39, had lots of engine room work done for the season ahead. Launched Weds, used her Thursday. Today I used the hot water tank and it sprang a leak from the cold water inlet. I’ll be having the connection fixed Tues/Weds, but for the next few days:

Does anyone know if I can either:

1. Isolate the water tank, say by emptying it so the leak stops, so I can still use water elsewhere on the boat. Or does the tank auto refill and then heat that water when you switch it on?

2. Is there a shut off vale for the water inlet to the hot water tank?

There’s no leak when the water pump and hot tank are switched off. This is just short term as I’ll be on the boat for the next few nights. Then I’ll get the joint replaced!

Thanks for you help
Ben

If you drain the hot water tank it will just refill again when you switch the water pump on again. If there is an isolation valve you should find it if you follow the hose back from the leak. What is the cold water feed hose made of? If it is squashable plastic/rubber you could put a small strip of wood either side of it a few inches away from the leak and squash the lot with a pair of mole grips or a clamp to flatten the hose. Its a bodge, but will seal the hose although the hose may need to be replaced when the leak is fixed.

thanks for the reply, I wondered if it would auto fill!I’ll just have to avoid using water on board for the next few days.....your advice is massively appreciated. Thanks Ben

Hello Ben,
Do I understand correctly you are referring to a Princess V39?
If so, I am considering purchasing a 2015 V39 as well. I hope to close the deal in the incoming week.
I would love to hear some feedbacks about the boat from a fresh new owner.
Are you liking it? Where are you navigating?
I am in COte d'Azur
Thanks!

Hi there, yep it’s a Princess V39. My deal completed just over a week ago, although the previous owner allowed me to undertake some work during the purchase process. I think I’ve seen your thread!
I’m a big open boat fan, Itama 40s, Windy Camira are some of my fave boats. But these boats are flawed in reality of my needs! I have two kids and a wife, we want to go on adventures over weekends and even weeks. So I narrowed my search to the V39 or the Sunseeker Portofino 40. I found a great portofino but it got sold as I negotiated. They are a rare boat, only made for two years and just not many in the UK. I think the V39 and Portofino 40 are very very similar.
We are very happy with the princess, it is very practical, still sporty, great with the roof open, but still good for shade or British rain and wind! Our spec is high with air con, hi/lo platform, cockpit heating, oak finish, grey hull band, joystick control. So it ticked every box for us.
Our boat was essentially a deal where I have been left to rectify any issues, I got a great price and the previous owner hadn’t used it for 6 months due to Covid. He’s trying to find a 50ft and needed to sell first. So I’m having to repair the hi/lo platform, sort out a few engine issues etc. (Currently getting PCU comma repaired on one engine) But the boats are very solid. It’s got 280 hours and is like new inside and out. Once my work is done it should be like new mechanically as well.
I live in Poole, so it’ll be moored here and I’ll be primarily using it in the Solent, Sandbanks, Poole Harbour, Devon and then longer runs to the Channel Islands and the Scilly Isles. Given Princess still make the V40 which is the V39 with bigger windows I think they’re a great bet, also 2019 V40s are currently £500k so that should ensure good values for us!

Hello Ben,
thanks for your long reply.
I also love Itamas and I find the WIndy Camira to be gorgeous (but the lack of a dinette is no-go...for the price of the boat!!!)
I somehow prefer the classic design of the V39 vs the V40.
