My genoa UV strip has had it after 10 years . I have unpicked the old strip with a view to using the genny for a while longer unprotected and putting the UV strip replacement money towards a new sail. My problem is removing the glue residue from the sailmakers double sided tape used to position the strip ... there are three rows of it along an 11m leech ! Sticky stuff remover seems to just smear it all about ? Anyone solved this one? Thanks Phil

Maybe acetone? But test first to make sure that it isn't going to damage the sail - I'd expect the polyester fibre itself to be fine but I don't know what the filler material normally is.

Why not just let it be? Making the new UV strip slightly wider would conceal any previous residue from the tape.
The problem that I have is not due to double-sided tape but that the entire UV strip is made out of self-sticking material. I would be grateful for something that would remove this strip and also the sail numbers that are stuck on a spinnaker. This spi was made by North Sails and is in an 'as new' condition, having seen very little use, but still has the old Italian sail numbers.

You are going to stunned by how fast the UV ruins the polyester. 2 years tops.

If you don't want to spend the money to do it right, try paint. Yes, paint. Think of how many Volvo boats go around the world with paint. Acrylic house paint will work but chip some, and flexible dinghy paint will work much better. A dark color will give much better UV protection.

Solvent abuse is the idea .
.Dry cleaning fluid will soften it .
You have to carefully scrape off the residue .Follow up with wiping of sticky mess with the dry cleaner solution.
Gets most sticky numbers residue off ,with this method.
Use in well ventilated area ,it will dissolve most rubber gloves .
If you leave it ,the tape residue will go hard in air and daylight, could rub most off then but by then sail cloth will be weakened .

Try xylene. I find it more effective.
