In the article reference is made to the 1884 International Meridian Conference, when Greenwich was chosen as the datum meridian, thus leading to the creation of GMT.

It is said that the French had wanted to use Paris as the datum. It was only after it was explained to them that nobody would be happy with PMT that they relented. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
