hello, does anyboby here use the piers owned by transport for london on the river thames. i have been told that i might have to have insurance up to three million pounds to do so.

does anyone have any experience with these piers or has anyone used the old watermens stairs?

thanks.

Your insurance may already have the £3M in it, becoming standard public liability figures to keep the legal profession in their draughty attic accomodation and yearly weekend on Skegness beach holiday.

Uhm, AFAIK TfL don't 'own' any piers - they operate a small number of piers under licence from the Port of London Authority. The PLA maintain slipways and stairs which are free for public use.

You don't really give us enough information. Are you a commercial operator operating 'coded' vessels? Or are you just a boaty person who wants to pick up friends / set them down / moor your boat and do some shopping around central London?

thanks Raedwald.
i am going to be a comercial operator taking up to twelve passengers. i am having the boat built at the moment to comercial vessel spec.

i somtimes find it hard as the watermen of which company i am an apprentice are very protective of the thames.

i used to work onboard a boat that went from westminster to hampton court about twenty years ago when i was a child.

i have been wanting to get back into it for a while now so now i am going for it. not realy going to let alot of things stop me.

i have my training at denton nw colledge for maritime studies in september and shall be seeking another apprentiship shortly.

i found some steps on the imray chart and a-z map but when i went to see them i found that they were locked up with padlocks.

i found some others though and would like to use them incase i get refused permission to use the piers even if i get my £30,000000 insurance.

thanks for the info, any other information about piers, steps and stairs/portential mooring pick up/drop off places?

cheers and thanks.
