Using rope as a saw

Thanks Saraband, that first one does look suitable. Assuming it is built for harder work than the boy-scout version I tried yesterday.

I wonder whether pulling the wire hard round a tight radius (the branch is only around 2.5 inches thick) is the reason that one broke.

Having had serious trouble with my kicking strap cutting grooves in my deck-edge at the end of 2015, from only the briefest contact, I know how abrasive rope can be...I haven't quite given up on that idea yet.

Note to self: don't forget the goggles when using a wire saw. Ought to be obvious, but since one's self is the motive power, the broken bits come flying towards the enthusiastic user when the wire breaks, with very little warning.
