As well as the usual weather and other apps on my ( wifes ) Hudl2 we will use it for entertainment ( films vidios etc) and news and that sort of stuff.
We have a 32gb sd card which slots into the unit to extend the memory.
Can we ‘put stuff’ specifically onto that card to use on the Hudl or is it just a sort of 'overflow’ ? Could we for example download the news or films when we have wifi access ( in the marina cafe) and play them back on the boat ( where we have no wifi access)
How do you use yours?

You may guess that I am an android novice

All that is perfectly possible and is how many people use their Android tablet.

One "gotcha" though. Depending upon your version of Android, you may not be able to store or view data on the SD card unless you use the file manager / video player / music player which came pre-installed with your Hudl2. File, music or video apps which you installed after purchase may not be able to access the SD card.

Don't underestimate the time it will take to download video in the marina cafe, could be hours rather than minutes for a film with low bandwidth & you'll be slowing the whole service down for everyone else as well, so potentially you could make yourself unpopular. Better to do it at home assuming you have good broadband internet...

We take both laptop & ipad when we go to our boat in France. We also take a good supply of DVDs to watch on the laptop. Realistically, as already stated, you will not get a fast enough wifi signal to download much other than emails and checking such as weather and occasional internet surfing. This is what we use the ipad for in cafes etc and leave the laptop for entertainment on the boat. Also unless you set up a VPN, will not be able to access the likes of BBC iplayer for TV outside the UK although you will get radio via the internet.

Your best bet is to load up with films and tv series before you go, as there are various problems.
Marina wifi slow, I had trouble streaming radio on low bandwidth.
If you can find a fast wifi in a cafe, bar or the like, you wont get BBC without using a proxy (anonymous) web browser, but there are tv download apps that you can download tv series from whilst you are having a meal and drink, such as Filmon.

+1
We download lots of TV series we'd usually watch at home. Out 1st in US so often in sync with UK by time we watch them.
Record & download odd TV prog via Filmon.
Tend not to have time to watch much anyway but easy to have 100+ things available before leaving UK
HUDL connects to TV via HDMI as uses very little power.
