How are you sposed to use the anchor alrm on a 72, or a 276C for that matter ? I have both & just don't seem to be able to get it behaving at all consistently.

Sometimes I start navigating to another point, without actually moving the boat & the thing goes off right away. Other times, same drill, boat moves way more than the alarm is set for....and not a dicky bird!

Have played with both wandering the pontoons, trying different things, and the manual just says switch it on in setup - I'm sure it's dead easy really - but anyone got any clues for me? doubly frustrating, being a clever-dick in general with computery/electronics things.

Thanks

I have used both the 72 and the 276 as well as the 76 and 2106. They all work well and pretty much the same. I use the anchor drag alarm on our 276C all the time because I leave it beside the window in the aft cabin (ie close enough for the alarm to wake me).

  1. Set the anchor and allow boat to settle
  2. Power up GPS and wait for a good stable fix (eg 2 mins)
  3. Set required distance taking into account tidal swing or wind change during the night. We usually set it for 40m.
  4. Switch on anchor drag alarm (use system menu, navigation alarms)
  5. Ensure GPS remains to get good signal (ie don't bring it below unless it's left beside a big window)
  6. Don't forget to turn anchor drag alarm off next morning of it'll beep like crazy the next time you move off /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

most kind - thanks. Pretty much what I do, except use the 276 as the main navigation plotter, so always switched on anyhoo.

Will play some more switching alarm on and off etc - but hmm, smtimes it works w/o doing anything different at all. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Or you could chuck a weight ofer the side tied to a line with a bit of slack in it and the other end secured to your toe. If you drag you will wake up.

Use an easily released knot though!
