Trying to reduce the need to store a can of butane for the gas-powered Origo stove lighter, I wondered if anyone had tried the plasma arc battery-powered lighters, and if so with what success please ? (Based on the premise that I can re-charge the arc lighter from the boat's USB points.)

EDIT

Lots more like these

I have tried and very occasionally succeeded in lighting my Origo with an empty gas lighter so would be surprised if this would do the job especially on a cold morning. It does claim to light candles and wood fires so I could be wrong.

For lighting regular gas, these plasma things work well. They recharge quickly and it’s great that they never need refilling with gas.

I much prefer the cheap butane kitchen lighters.

Perhaps this is just because the wand is longer, and I because I'm in the habit of putting the pot on the hob before lighting it - the plasma one doesn't seem to reach far enough for it to light quickly.

Probably will work OK, but not available for delivery in my 'mainland UK' postcode. I'd ask people to boycott this supplier for their discrimination.

I wonder whether the end of the gadget might be too large to get right down into the burner.

After seeking advice on here a month or so back (can't find the thread now) I bought one of the usb rechargeable arc lighters on the back of strong recommendations from various forumites and have found it to be very effective.

As I said previously, they look like a good idea but I find that my butane wand lighter lights the gas even if the wand tank is empty.

As I said in post 2 it is not easy to light an Origo (meths) stove with just a spark. Lady in bed is talking about a gas stove I think

I use those gas filled lighters with a long spout. They are very cheap and last a long time unless you drop them in the washing up water. For which eventuality I have two boxes of extra long matches; wrapped in clingfilm to prevent them getting damp.
