Using a Jump pack as an auxiliary battery & Charger

Back to the OP though - would these units also be able to be used as a charger if plugged into a shorepower overnight?

I have a camping shorepower lead with a RCD and circuit breakers in - fully self contained, just plug the unit in, connect to main battery, and bingo? Or not bingo?
That what WhiteMischief implied only left unplugged to mains power.

Jez - have you the model number of that Halfords one so I get the correct unit please?

My house batteries (400 AH) also start the engine, and I've often wondered if I could just clamp a backup battery over the top (as in car jump-starting) in emergencies (i.e. if the house bank is run down) without disconnecting the house bank - wouldn't the house bank just soak up the difference very quickly? Would this work in reverse to charge the backup battery from the house bank when on shorepower?

Thanks for your attention!

I have a battery jump starter from Machine Mart. I doubt if it would start the boat from cold with a flat on board battery, but it would certainly help start a warm engine at anchor if the battery had run down. For me that is worth having.

Sorry highjacking the thread and doing it badly - I meant a normal 80 AH starter battery as backup (as opposed to the jump starter pack beign discussed here)
