Useful boating accessory....

Bill Brysons book "The mother Tongue" illustrates that in the US they have the US Post, that delivers the Mail, whereas in the UK we have the Royal Mail that delivers the post (at least when they're not on strike!)
One of the central points of that book however was that the American version of English has changed less than the English version since the war of independence.

Crewing for a Septic a few years back, was initially confused when he asked if I could see a Red Boooo-eeeeee

I knew a chap from Bristol (UK) who called them that, too.

The thing that mistifies me about American English is the constant 'ass' references. Is it ass like donkey or ass like rectum? Donkey ownership is low there, so my guess is the latter.

Get your ass over here (erm... why only that bit?)
My ass on the line (sit somewhere else)
Half assed (buttocked?)
Hauling ass (last resort of the constipated?)
