Useful Bits

Wandering around my favourite local chandlers, I just happened to pause by the fishing bits he sells. There on the shelf was a small red fishing rod light, powered by two button cells.
I trail all sorts of boats about and have always had a little concern for the bits that have to hang over the transom despite the tatty duster tied on. My problem is solved. One red fishing rod light, 2 elastic bands and and the bits that hang out can now be seen day and more importantly night. Cost of the light, about six quid.

red bicycle 'strobe' lights probably far more visible than fishing lights powered by 'button cells'

And can be set to be on 'continuous' which is far less confusing for a following driver than 'flashing'.

And even more confusing for the fish .. see a red light flashing and think mm better keep that to port or I'll crash ... much better with a long white flash every 10secs that'll lull the piscine population into a false sense of security

A usefull bit of kit, I carry one as a back up light for the cockpit compass, on the odd occasion I've used it there has been no adverse effect on deviation, Cheers and a Happy New Year. Mike.

Interesting .. I thought that actually there is not a standard .. can be isophase,occulting,A, LFl(10s) as long as it ain't Fl(2) ?

I realise now you were referring to a 'safe water mark' not just any old 'long flash'.

I thought it flashed if it off for more time than it is on and occulted if it is on for more time than it is off...........

So do I. However the definition of a long flash is 2secs or more. So a L Fl 10s (eg Needles Fairway) will have a flash lasting 2secs and then 8 secs of darkness.
