Used Prices cooling?

There defo seems to be a shortage currently. I was at B W yesterday and they mentioned shortage of trade purchases. Signs are out boats wanted for cash .... I think importing is a problem now due to VAT being reapplied on EU boats even if vat has been paid on the purchase in the EU. We purchased a sc35 there were around 10 forsale in November. All of the 10 I noticed have now been sold or under offer. It’s that crazy a 10 year old bay liner is now worth the same If not more than when it was new I was being told.

Know of two mid range flybridge boats (60-75 K) put up for sale , one sold within a week, one after a month , both under offer and about to be surveyed.
Quite suprised just how many boats sold during the lockdown on our moorings. At a guess something like 10% of the total number of our club boats have changed hands .
Virtually all via brokers, only one or two privately.
One or two boats directly due to pandemic ,a couple of boats sold due to Covid related finances , a few simply changing boats regardless and one or down simply downsizing, to suit finances.
Only one boat remains unsold, probably until the asking price begins to get a lot closer to its true value.
Stuff is moving and prices achieved pretty good.
Several have commented about the diesel derogation remaining will help prices no end .
Is it me, but is the MoBo market a lot more bouyant than the "Yot" section market, one of our local brokers has exactly 2 Mobos on his (free until sold) sales pontoon and one of those is under offer.

I’m getting pestered to sell my boat for a good profit, all well and good but what do you replace them with if everything on the market has appreciated.

I have been looking for a boat for nearly a year although I was messed about and the money to buy wasn't in the bank until late summer. Apparently nice boats seem to sell quickly for good money, I suspect often unseen. Boats in the EU are now +20% making that option even more expensive (never mind the poor exchange rate). Is it worth holding off to see if the bubble bursts anytime soon?

How did I miss thi t hread?... :(

What are you looking for?

centre console, on a trailer, outboard/s, big as I can get.....cheap ???

something like that....although that has 2004 yamamerc 225, 4 stroke that had exhaust issues...and they won’t move much on price although it’s been on the market since 2019

White shark 265 is nice and is towable....as is axopar 28 open with a mega expensive stainless trailer but they are big money.

Marina facilities on IOM are poor and all lifts are mobile cranes. I want to be independent

Yes.....coz that’s my only option so it is the right thing to do ?

2 trillion+ debt pile has got to do something.

Now....if we had a trade deal with the USA so no VAT being paid or RCD requirements......then we’ve got a used boat market!

We sold privately as we emerged from the first lockdown last year. Got a good price but then we had spent a lot and the boat was in top order and we lost money overall. Bought the current boat in the fast moving market in the summer last year so paid more than we wanted to and now spending more on upgrades. Having been very prudent with buying and selling previous boats over twenty odd years we ended up not doing quite so well this time round but took the view that life is for living and we are happy ?

Who knows what will happen with the market as (if) we get back to some form of post-Covid normality - too many variables (e.g. impact of Brexit, economic recovery etc) to predict so holding off now might be a good idea......or it might not ?

Unless you want to boat in the winter (in a centre console???) why not get a swinging mooring in PSM? More choice then boat wise.

Mainly as I polish a lot, do all my own work etc....

i don’t get to use that much so would prefer it to be ashore

Steve Carter’s 1964 crane scares the crap out of me too ???

After many hours searching.......Prices are not cooling ???

The used market is mental. Boats on for just a few days. Must be bought unseen?

It feels like such a bad time to buy as I’m sure the bubble must burst but when!

Yep, totally agree. I'm constantly looking but the prices have not dropped one iota in a while now, and they're still high, and being forever bouyed up by the ever increasing cost of new boats.

It's not even great if you own one. As Jeremy says, you can sell your own boat for a profit, bt that's zero help if you're moving into another boat anyway.

The only winner is the guy selling and retiring from boating (and the dealers natch)...

After selling last year I am going to take a year out and see what 2022 brings , Hoping for some reductions as people realise boating is not cheap.

Market is nuts.. very little coming up and what does is going quickly at top prices, even now during lockdown. I have an offer submitted on something at the moment, but not expecting it to be accepted. The asking price an easy 25% over what would have been asked when I sold my P34, which I now regret doing. Options for sea trials somewhat limited right now too, and having rejected one boat in September due to a D3 burning oil, I'm reluctant to skip.

50 foot + doesn't seem to be ballooning as much as the others it seems to be mostly 40 foot and below sub 250k ish thats popular perhaps a time to cash in the uplift on the smaller boats and go a tad larger :)

Wonder how much is business support loans that have been “misdirected” by some, and business’ that will just fold after this latest lockdown / furlough ends with massive debts but the owners seem to have done ok out of it....

From what I have heard there has been a lot of furlough loans used to buy boats and other expensive items
