...as advertised by Moody's (and others I think) to run in parallel with SIBS.

a) Has anyone been? Are they worth visiting?
b) Do they happen at any other times of the year? (In case we can't get to Soton this September)

Have been to Moody's a couple of times and it is ok.

Quality of boats varies but it is a 'used boat' show.

However you get to view many boats at leisure with out any sales pressure or long queues you get at SBIS.

If you are looking for second hand boat this may be the place for you.

Don't know about any other times though.

The smaller, newer AWBs go very quickly, go the first day if this is what you want. The larger and older yachts tend not to shift (or maybe later): a good place if this is what you are looking for.

Other yards around Southampton also run a used boat show during SIBS, but Moody's is the largest. There is nothing else on that scale.

Hi
Ancasta usually do a Used Boat Show to coincide with the SBS and Moody's....We were in the market last year and went for the weekend just to visit as many boats as we could and compile a short-list of ones to consider.
For that reason alone, it was worth it, because we viewed in excess of 50 boats that weekend at Port Hamble, Moody's yard and Berthon at Lymington.
Ancasta also usually do one over Easter weekend, if I mrember correctly.
Happy viewing!!

We went last year, because we were trying to work out what sort of second-hand boat to buy. For that, it was brilliant - we viewed lots, crossed several types, and manufacturers, off our list. We went on to a couple of other similar events in the neighbourhood, and crossed more possibles off our list. It's probably better for that than actually to buy anything. Because of all the other people, you could feel a pressure to bid for a particular boat, a bit too early.

Enjoy looking, ogling boats you couldn't possibly afford, and working out what features are really going to be valuable to you.

We went to all the 2nd hand boat shows in hampshire for a couple of years running - an excellent way of viewing and "feeling" the interiors of a lot of yachts for comparison to help you find the right one.

Clarke & Carter Interyacht at Levington Suffolk do a large used boat show around the beginning of each season. Advertised on their website. I went a couple of years ago. Similar comments apply. Loads of stuff to view and tick off.
