Yes and no Ive never found a cheap boat at any show, a lot of owners just put them to see if anyone will pay a daft price for it, in my book if a boats for sale its got to be at a realistic price not an exaggerated boat show price, try Moodys show at Swanwick, theres one at Lymington Yachthaven by ancasta????? and one at Cobbs quay at poole, try to get a catalouge if possible to avoid any unecessary travelling, oh and Berthons at Lymington have one as well, they always have some very tasty stuff but not so many well known makes just real quality type gentlemans motor yachts, plus Piers v39, must be the first plug for this boat!??? eh piers, what are you going for if it sells then?.
Last year when looking for a boat I was disappointed in the 'used boat show' because it just seemed to be an Ancasta open day. As already suggested get a catalogue and see if there is anything you want.
Heaven forbid me from pushing my boat (jolly bad form you know) but OpalMarine brokerage £69K will take offers <G>. She comes out of the water in a couple of weeks and is going to Essex Boatyards as they storage is free and they reckon they will sell her in 8 weeks (Ha believe that...)
So you unscrew this, and put it safely here, then oopps...
All - IMHO, BTW, FWIW and NWGOI
<font color=black>Don't hold yer breff wiff Essex Boat Yard. He counts the hits on his web site multiplied by every seperate item on the front page that has to load. However, you may get lucky, I hope so for your sake.</font color=black>
It all depends on how much you want to spend,or overspend.
Decide a budget and stick to it,otherwise it's like buying a house you always buy more than you can realy afford and a boats is like a house it's not only buying it ,it's running it!
My advise is to decide on a few makes and type of boat that interest you and visit marina, negotiation is the next name of the game, but whatever you do when you agree on the price make it "subject to survey" if you have not already seen the boat in and out of the water.
My wife and I spent four months every weekend visiting different marina's and thats an education in it's self.
Big name marinas are not always best, try a few of the smaller ones too.
Always give Moodys yard a look after boatshow.Prices are as Mr P eng. states well inflated but it give you the chance to look at all sorts of boats side by side. And yess of course I was in the Market for all those halfmillon plus boats we looked over .Just giv us the keys please.
One boat, a 3/4 millon princess was just like the Marie Celeste.the owner had just walked away leaving everything behind including contents of bog/fridge /booze cupboard/ all clothes etc etc.
Just hold tight dear it will not be so rough when we get round the corner, trust me.
for those interested it carries the poster's name - in very large letters, on the transom
I also think it's encouraging to establish how the boat got to the used boat show - if the owner ran it over a couple of days before the show, covering a few sea miles, you can have a lot more confidence than with something that may have been on the hard for many months!
Moodys at Swanick,1/2 hour down abit from Soton. They do photocopies of boatlist on site,Normally at least 30/40 boats there.Little onsite eaterie is good value.
Ps take brolly it always rains.
