In anything more than ghosting conditions you'll never manage to tension the kicker with a 4:1 purchase. The usual thing with that power would be to pull the boom down with the sheet while close hauled, then take up the slack on the kicker. That will be quite adequate for cruising. If you've reached the stage of wanting to adjust the kicker as you go along, fit a more powerful tackle or use a winch (having first ensured that the anchorage points are strong enough).
