As a boy I swam in rivers, lakes and lochs
When asked what I was up to, my reply would be 'going swimming'
My Neice refers to this now as 'Wild Swimming'

As a youth I camped by rivers lakes and lochs
when asked what I was up to, my reply would be 'going camping'
My nephew refers to this now as 'Wild Camping'

I've sailed by Scottish shores for the past 40 odd years and anchored where we fancied.
Leo Stocker, the illustrious editor of YM now seems to be insisting that this is known as 'Wild Cruising'

I first came across the term in France years ago but translated into camping sauvage.

Hilarious spell checker wanted it as camping sausage:eek:

When I was a lad you went shopping in a street you now do it in a Mall.

What always gives me the giggles is "wild honey". What is tame honey?

Another hilarious event was the scientist who said that there was no difference between an organically grown tomatoes and one grown using modern farming inputs. Of course there could never be as the genetically they are identical but the organic one tastes better and is much better for the environment.

It's the prerogatives of the young to steal the thunder of the old through repackaging their own experiences.

A natural consequence of thinking that this ...

... is a quiet, unspoiled harbour. One of the mags did an article on anchoring a few years back which started (I paraphrase) "One day you may have to do this in an emergency, so why not practice now?" Kids today, eh?

Is this anything to do with "glamping"?

Wild swimming = swimming ( not in a pool )
Wild Camping = camping ( not in a caravan site )
Glamping = imaginary activity stage managed by Sunday Magazine photo editors to flog fantasy lifestyle envy.
Parkour ( aka "Free Running ") = running about and jumping things like kids always did.
