I have been using a set of these attached to the laptop for watching films or listening to music

they were about £20

| dropped one the other day and now it rattles and the base has gone weird

I am fairly happy with them but before I buy another set....

has anyone got any suggestions or urls that are worth looking at

usb powered, mini-jack connections

I have a pair of USB speakers that are now surplus, having made the bluetooth switch, which I'd be happy to send you for the price of a pint next time youre in the RAFYC. 3W, USB powered, mini jack connection - about the price point you mentioned, they are these ... http://approx.es/APPSP04?search=appsp04

I'll be back from the boat next week so PM me if interested

I've got BT speakers that work faultlessly with tablet and phone but sulk when asked to work woth XP or 7 laptops (BT enabled) The laptop recognize the Maginon item but don't port sound. Any ideas?

Unless you especially want stereo, as said, consider mini bluetooth.

+1- and I've got one of these

which is really fantastic and creates such a sound image that a second one isn't really necessary (and I have tested that to satisfy myself). Typical price £130, so not cheap, but careful shopping on E-Bay got me a steal, so I am very pleased

thanks for the offer - hoping to upgrade a bit soundwise

the dancy pink thing looks fun - but way too trendy

bose - now that would be a thing to have on the boat

If you have somewhere to mount a couple of car stereo speakers, these work surprisingly well

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/F900-Audi...hash=item28066a756c:m:mHgUcn6kQ1WsyZSJOYAi_nA

small enough to put anywhere, will run from the 12v system, roughly set the volume then use the volume control on your device to set the level you want.

you have to buy the power cable, but you can easily pick up a jack plug and make your own

USB used to be rated to give 5w of power. I am not sure if there are more powerful USB speakers than 2x3 watts. Here's a bar speaker that uses less cables than 2 separate speakers would. Good reviews £16 free delivery. http://www.ebuyer.com/657666-xenta-...gplauk?mkwid=s_dc&pcrid=51482425859&pkw=&pmt=

Can be placed behind the laptop screen will probably sound the same from there.

I'd guess the ones that were dropped are slightly better. As they are more powerful and have some bass things in them.

I've been using the Sony SRS x-11 Bluetooth cube speaker, really pleased for music quality and when watching the odd film on iPad. Easy to hang in the cabin, appear solidly made, heavy but portable
Seem to be available for about £32 on eBay
