Good morning guys
I looking to buy a USB GPS that will work with windows 10 ,
lots on eBay and Amazon, but how well do they work inside the boat?
Any recommendations please ?.

I have tried a couple and they work fine below deck as does the built in GPS on my phone and iPad.

However, be warned that u-blox and perhaps other virtual serial ports used by many USB GPS units will not work with some USB V3 ports even though they are meant to be backwards compatible. There was a thread on here or on the PBO forum a little while back.

One of my lap tops is fine with 2 units, the other does not work. Both have Windows 10.

Edited for spolling and incorrect automatic corrections and to add:

U-blox7 GPS/GLONASS dongle is one I have used, the other is a GPS "mouse" IIRC with the same engine (very common) but it is on the boat so I can't check.

Hi Vic,

been using this on Windows 10 from inside boat with no problems what so ever.

U-blox7 GPS/GLONASS...

Hi Vic, I have 2 of these. I run Win 10 and a Mac on them. OpenCPN works great even on the MAC after I found a work around. Just navigated narrow and skinny waters in eastern Panama (San Blas Islands) using Erik Bauhaus published charts. Makes my Navionics look like kindergarten class... Blue side UP! Enjoy Malta.

Thanks JP I have a look,
back to the UK just after Christmas to see family and pick up spares so need to get order in soon.
Malta good, so far a great winter stop over, not the cheapest, but sunny and warm so far.
