Many thanks for all the interest and response to my query re inverters and PC chart software last week - now the next problem - as forseen by one respondent.
I finally settled on the Maplin 300w inverter (£50) which should be OK but I have not tried in in anger yet. It appears to me it could run out of steam when faced with a flat laptop battery which could draw 1.8 amps @ 240V according to the rating of the laptop charger. I suspect this may be over generous and short term but time will tell.
Newish laptops do not have a 9 or 24 pin serial port only USB and the software people (Maptech in my case) have not yet caught up with this. Is it possible to conect a USB plug onto the lead in place of the Serial or is it more complicated than that?
If so what are the connections to make?
thanks in advance
