I was trying to rig up a way of using the tablet in the cockpit whilst it is charging, I've got a suction mount bracket to mount it. The plan was to have it in a water proof case with a short USB adaptor sticking out - when required I could plug in the long male to male adaptor to charge it. You'd think I would have tried it before gluing wouldn't you! but I didn't have a male to male usb lead. Tablet is the GT-P5100

Anyways - it didn't work, so I ordered another usb male to male, that didn't work, so I ordered another short usb adaptor - still don't work - any ideas why??

Here's the water proof case:

The ones above are different suppliers to the first lot I bought (the ebayer supplying me the male to male sent me 3 lots of stuff before the right lead arrived - including an RJ45 data cable that looks about 10M long!)

The whole lashup is a complete abortion from the point of view of the original USB spec (Male A to Male A cables, for goodness' sake?) but I don't know what hacks and kludges are common in the field nowadays, so can't really comment.

What are you charging it from. Not every usb port puts out enough juice to charge my samsung tab. Needs a couple of amps.

My Samsung phone wont charge from some USB sockets. I had to modify a USB extension to get it to work. I think I had to join the 2nd and 3rd pins together. I believe this is something to do with the way the USB power supply is configured internally.

The normal charger lead works with all of my mains/12V chargers. Think the problem is as pointed out, the adapter I'm trying to use is for external hard drives and the like.
