sorry if some find this boring

after a recent post i decided to do an experiment between buying mercruiser parts here & over the water

results

bravo 3 anode kit:-

local dealer = £82.43 inc vat, postage would be £5.85 (postage not needed )
windermere aquatic = £86.05 inc vat, postage would be £4.85

USA - marine parts express

parts = $60.73 (with discount)
postage = $41.45
total = $102.18
add 19% duty = $121.59 (£62.31)

is it worth the hastle ?

well worth it in my opinion. The more of us that do it the more local dealers and their suppliers will get the picture--ie we know we are being ripped off over here and maybe their pricing policies need bringing into line with those over the pond. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Over the years I have bought the following, all brand new.
Alpha 1 leg, Mercruiser manifolds and elbows, mercruiser cylinder head and some minor trailer parts , saved over £2k (the difference in price for the gasket sets is difficult to believe or understand!) on these items, and had no hassle. Some times had to pay duty, sometimes not. Have found that using parcel 2 go's USA adress service usefull as some dealers do not send abroad plus it is usually cheaper.
So definately give it a try.

Sorry, but the UK marine industry isn't a charity. If they can't compete then natural selection and the internet will sort them out sooner or later.

It is not a case of supporting Americans, but a case of getting best value for your hard earned pound! I have never understood why so many items cost so much more here.
Maybe someone can explain!

Re: USA parts experiment - UPDATE

in case anyone's interested I got the parts from local dealer - well I know him a bit - but if it was a more costly item then that's a different matter
