i grounded my intro 22 on saturday (i was in the cabin though) a friend was at the helm, and i even had a new depth sounder.

we got stuck, and got towed off the sand bank by a dredger support boat. the force as the rudder was stuck snapped it off right below the bottom rudder bracket. i have no measurements of the rudder. if theres any intro 22 owners who could measure their intro rudders i would be truly grateful (or better yet have a spare rudder i can buy) does anyone have any recommendation too where i can get one made up ?

all i have for info is the picture i took of the boat and rudder before i launched earlier in the year

thanks for the link. the diagrams on the forum there show pretty much everything except the blooming rudder details. so frustrating. i have also PM'd the members there to see if they can help assuming they still own the intro.

thank you

I would suggest trying to contact a guy at Cardwell Sailing Club(Gourock) called Duncan Monroe. He has had an Intro(great boat) for over 20 years and has replaced the rudder on his.
As a matter of interest whereabouts are you and what is yours called? I had an intro which looked just like yours and raced her very successfully for many years.

thanks

and she is at Erith yacht club, apparently she originally came from lake windemere about 25 years ago

she is called The Act

fingers crossed he can help

hi all.

just an update. I eventually got around to getting the issue sorted earlier this year. Got measurements from two other intro owners (both different measurements). Luckily insurance paid up and I ended up having a rudder expertly made as well as a tiller by Tony Mackillican (came to just under £850 ish) he designed the new rudder based around the two measurements i had and on a sonata. its made from mahogany

also people may also recall after the grounding i had a survey done where cracks were discovered inside the bilge by the keel plate. I had some fiberglass specialists repair it as they repairs a few other yachts at the club before. they reported the cracks were in fact near the surface and about 5+ years old. they cut them away and re-fibreglassed the area. also the "cracks" on the external plate area was just the old flexible sealant and antifoul. i dug out the old sealant and re-applied sikaflex 291i and marine sealant in the gaps between the keel plate and hull and re-antifouled with hempel.

heres recent pics and vid i took showing the new rudder which i hope on my life to have for many years now. it handles superbly and also pics of the bilge. i do wish they hadent covered the bolts but ill likeley get them back next year and get them to cut around them and taper the glass around the bolts. will ask them to fix a few other minor wear and tear areas too.

Good to see you have finally got pro and experienced owner help with the rudder rather than a forum member going to a lot of trouble and expense knocking up a freebie.

It seems madness to glass right over the keel bolts, are you sure they are pro's ?!

they are all things fibreglass (constant fiberglass). not marine specialists. they did repair the whole one side of a hull on another boat 2 years ago and its been solid. the bolts were tight and not corroded before they glassed over them. will expose them next winter its out again. and both surveyours were happy with the bolts and plate.

Hi
Just acquired an Intro 22, and rudder doesn't look the best, crack in stock where bolt runs through. Still attached and works, but thinking of a preemptive replacement. Are you able to post the dimensions you used?
Cheers
