Urgent info on west coast of Italy to bay of Naples

Try Miseno on the north west tip of the Bay of Naples. It was a Roman port. I anchored there in 1984 when it harboured only a few boats, now there are hundreds of ribs and small speedboats but still space to anchor. I wouldn't leave your boat unattended.

My experience of anchorages in Italy is that there were none that were free. You may be able to get into Cediera, pretend to be a tunny boat.
Miseno is also the HQ of NATO Mediterranean Naval Command, it's still overcrowded, smelly and your belongings unsafe.

Try messaging Zen Zero - he is a long time resident of these parts and I know he moors his yacht in Salerno or nearby.

Lots of choices around Naples area although as mentioned none are free and crime is a problem in Campagnia. How about stopping nr Amalfi, or maybe a trip to Capri would suffice. Expensive this time of year though, especially now the MOBO crowd are out in force.

I am located on Isola di Nisida (W of Naples) and many yachts moor just outside the marina, most probably free of charge. People also moor outside of Monte di Procida, to the West of Naples. Anywhere around Pozzuolli is possible, although very exposed to anything but N or East winds.

Try Zen Zero as I mentioned. He may be able to help further.

Good luck

Andy

Thanks for the info guys , but What a lack of information I am surprise that not many people don't try this country and cruise Italy , maybe it because of all the rumours that Italy is so expenses and lack of anchorages , mostly by people who never explored the country , yes if you want to use marinas there are expenses just like the once in Greece and back home and fuel is also more then places like Greece but if you are happy to anchor , there always places you just need to find then or be told where to find them .
we have now been in Italy for a month and as yet not ones have we been in a marina or had to pay anywhere not even for water
and we hoping to carrier on in this way for the next few months , if any one is cruising and looking for anchorages on the west coast , you can start with the lovely bay we found south of Naples Sapri , YES it free , its sheltered and free water in the harbour , there is only three other yachts here one brit One US and a French yacht , the mountain views are out standing and the town is very Italian with its church and tree lined square , people very friendly and not much have changes around here for years .
My view of cruising isn't sitting on the same set of islands year in and year out , but exploring new places and country , other wise I would had just spend my time in the east coast rivers .

Any other info will be very welcoming .

Fuel here is 1.61 a lts which is 20c a lts more then Greece , but we are lucky , we have a sailing boat and the wind cost nothing .

SW Italian ports/anchorages

I have a list of 16+ ports/anchorages up/down the SW coast of Italy from the Aeolies to Rome. It dates back to 2005 but I doubt much has changed. I tried to add it as an attachment but failed. If you would like a copy just PM me with your email and I will forward it on to you.

Hi Vic and ors,
I'm sure you have lots of info now Vic.
Its a while since I was that way, but I remember Procida island off Naples being particularly good for provisioning.I think it is because many small ferries stock up there.
The Marina was not cheap, but there may be transito berths available in the Public port.
If you are going as far as Monte Argentario, Ste Stephano has transito berths amongst the diving boats, near yellow crane turn to port after entering.Town Quay may also be free, but will have swell/scend, not suffered under the crane side.Pizzeria immediately behind dock, up high, useful, cheaper to takeway.
