On a boat I bought there was water in the engine oil which had gone grey, As the engine was running perfectly, I sumised that at some time the battery had gone flat so the automatic bilge pump stopped working and water in the bilges rose higher than the hole in the engine casing where the dipstick goes in. and when the shore power cable was plugged in again the bilge pump got rid of the excess water.
(this is what happens when you buy a boat from someone who knows nothing about boats and when they described the boat on Boats & Outboards
it was advertised as a Carbon Fibre Hull. ((I wish)
Confirmation of the height of the water in the bilges was aparrent when I took the Starter Motor off and the inside was saturated with water and the oil which had floated out of the top of the dipstick hole.
